Broccolin travels to Lorca

This week the Broccolin Project has travelled to Lorca to visit the Virgen de las Huertas school.  Lorca is a city that stands out as the third most important town in the Region of Murcia, after the City of Murcia and Cartagena.  It is also one of the regions of Spain which produces and exports the most broccoli. So to our Broccolin Project it has felt like home, in a landscape characterised by the intense green of the crop.

This population is not only known for its broccoli production but we also discovered a latent concern for the healthy eating of children. On our visit to the Virgen de las Huertas school, we were surprised to learn that they have contests during recess to see which class eats the most fruit. The winning class of that week is awarded with a different recess in a special area of the school where they will have complete freedom to play.
